Ironman training ABCs

Its raining, its pouring....literally Houston is flooded in today so I thought I would take the time to write a short blog. This year I decided to take the plunge along with many fellow athletes and tackle the Ironman. I decided to make an ABCs of the many thoughts that have crossed my mind during my ironman training. Despite the many negative thoughts, I actually am REALLY enjoying the training and pushing myself to the next limit. I am sure most of you can relate!

A-Achieve. The day will not be easy and it will be hard. But racing an Ironman will be achieved.
B-Bikes!  Lots and lots of time spent on this bad boy. Most times you want to take your saddle off and toss it out the window. There are a few rare days that you really like your bike.
C-Crying.  That day when you have a 5 hr trainer ride. The cries are heard from all over the house....
D-Demons. You start dreaming that you are late to the race, or you are drowning in the swim. These dreams do happen.
E-Efficiency. To be able to do the event the fastest, you must find your bodies most efficient movement patterns.
F- Feeling like shit. maybe 6 out of 7 days you feel like shit. That one epic day when you float keeps you motivated for the rest of the training week.
G-GU. I am SO sick of these already....
H- Hangry. OMG to the amount of food I can eat and still not seem to get enough in. On the other hand, dont F with me if I have just finished my workout and need to eat...
I-Ironman Shuffle. When every run starts to feel like an ironman shuffle...you know you are training for an ironman.
J-Joke.  Yup, This is not a joke. Ironman training is crazy.
K-Krash. Not the kind you do on a bike. I am talking the most epic, worst feeling, bonk you ever experience. This usually occurs on Recovery day.
L-Love. In the end, we wouldnt do this if we didnt LOVE it ;)
M-Miles. 2.4,112,26.2 ...Thats alot!!
N-Nice. This is in reference to the triathlon community. The respect for each other. The dedication. The cheers. I love how everyone is so supportive of each other and on race day,  your time really doesnt matter. You are an Ironman! Its a huge accomplishment
O-Ouch. Blisters, chaffing, your damn saddle.. You get the point.
P-Potato. (or really sweet Potato). My #1 consumed food on a daily basis. #healthycarbs
Q-Quiet. Because I am tired, OK?
R-Risk. You have to take a risk at some point. Whether this is during the race to make the pack, or simply pushing yourself to blow up on a set of hold pace 100s. Its not a failure, until you try.
S-Stupid. This is probably the most common word that comes out of my mouth. That and the big F bomb....
T-Triple. That one time I had to do a triple run all in the same day....Yikes.
U-Underwear. What underwear?
V-Vicious.The highs and lows are a vicious cycle.
W-WIND. If you are on strava you know that WINDY AF is the most common title for a century ride.
X-Xi. The word I play the most in Words with friends while on the trainer....
Y-YOU. No matter what, the race is about you. Your training. You pushing yourself. Your finish.
Z- Ziptie. How many of you have been saved by a zip tie?

Good luck to everyone racing IMTX this year. Ill see you on the course :)
