70.3 Texas

A quick Report on my 70.3 Texas race. The quick summary: flat from the start. Turned my lemons into the best lemonade I could. Finished and walked away with a nice training day. Sometimes thats all you can do...
Thanks Zach Miller from Fantasy Tri for the pic. Swim exit.

The Swim: With approximately 30 girls on the start line this was actually one of my biggest swim starts in quite some time.Usually the pro fields are about 15 girls max. More girls = faster so I was excited to see how it would stream out. As soon as I jumped in the water I could tell I was kind of "OFF" as I warmed up. I swam 27 and change and exited the water with the second pack. It wasn't a terrible swim and was actual one of my fastest HIM swims but the effort just wasn't right. This was also my first time in my wetsuit since May 2014!

The bike: Ohhhhh the bike. I was 30 watts off my estimated power. 30 watts!! I was riding endurance effort and well, thats all that really came around that day. I decided to take my day as it was and still get the fitness from a good long day of training. I practiced my nutrition plan and made sure to get all my calories in. Overall I took in 1200 calories on the bike, and 400 on the run. No GI issues, just a couple legs that didnt want to cooperate today :P
Thanks Alexa for the cheers! Tried to smile as much as I could despite not feeling too hot!

The Run: Actually did not start off too bad. MY first lap was about 31 minutes so I knew that if I kept that up I could run about 90 mins. Well the slow fade happened fast. The only really AWESOME thing about the run was seeing all my athletes and friends on the course. I even got to run with some of them and chat it up a little bit. Yes, even coach is human and has bad days.

All in all it was a super awesome day with friends. I have always been SO Impressed with the Houston tri community and that was ever so apparent today. From the coaching stand point I had 2 athletes qualify for worlds, 4 PR, and a few more finish with great performances in their first Half ironmans. I was super happy Coach, a not so happy athlete, but a totally lucky friend to have so many great and inspiring people around me.
Me and one of my favorite training partners post race. She qualified for worlds!
